by: Lissa Corona Perchance to Dream is one part of a series of videos depicting the artist as her alter ego, Theodore Burns. Theodore, or Teddy as he is known to friends, is representative of the artist´s faltering self-esteem. Finding it difficult to identify with idealized representations of femininity portrayed by the media, the artist has developed her own representative through the guise of Mr. Burns. Struggling with the constructions of femininity and masculinity, the artist attempts to work through her confusion by recalling memories of childhood and re-enacting them as a middle-aged, asexual, lonely man. It is by this association that she hopes to resolve her internal conflict in terms of desire and sexuality.
