The human failure to do the tagging may even turn out to be fatal for the animals. The Yellow Tag is a commentary on the present, but also a hint at what could be the shape of things to come. Despite its half-humorous tone, the film eventually strikes a rather serious note addressing the issues of identity, legitimacy, control and surveillance.
