Director
Hakan Hısım was born in Istanbul 1978.
He grew up in various countries around the world, mainly Australia and Turkey. At a young age he was attracted by Surreal Artists, namely Magritte and Dali, and was later influenced by Turkish Artist Utku Varlık.
After Completion of High School in Istanbul, Turkey he Studied Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia between. He then returned to Istanbul to study Cinema & Television Production.
His Video Art and Experimental work is heavily influenced by Surrealist Stop-Motion animators and directors like: Jan Svankmajer, The Quay Brothers, David Lynch and Tim Burton.
His Experimental short film ‘The Insiders’ passed elimination in the 25th IFSAK International Short Film & Documentary Festival and received second place in the Experimental Short Film category. Insiders was screened in the
Istanbul 16th Short Film Days. The Insiders also won the Special Experimental Prize in the
2nd Yıldız Short Film & Documentary, and was screened along with his other Experimental Short ‘Messiah’
Hakan Hısım continues to paint and create Video Art in Istanbul, Turkey.
